The Pharmacy Council is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament, the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act (Act 857) to regulate the practice of Pharmacy in Ghana.

OUR MISSION

The mission of the Pharmacy Council is to secure the highest level of Pharmaceutical Care by ensuring competent pharmaceutical care providers who practice with agreed standards and are accessible to the whole population.

In addition we shall collaborate with related local agencies and international pharmaceutical organizations to enhance our effectiveness and our contribution on national drug use in the nation.

This mission shall be carried out with dedication, integrity and professionalism.

The New Registrar, Pharmacy Council

Dr. Daniel Amaning Danquah

Dr. Daniel Amaning Danquah has been appointed by the president of Ghana, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, as the Registrar of the Pharmacy Council in line with Article 195 of the 1992 Constitution. His appointment took effect from August 2024. Before his appoint he acted from December, 2023. The Registrar was the Deputy Registrar in charge of operations prior to his appointment. He has been with the Council as a member of the management team and has led in the development of several policies of the Council. He comes with a lot of knowledge and experience due to his long period of service with the Council. It is the hope of the president that Dr. Amaning Danquah will bring the needed transformation to the Council to ensure the highest level of pharmaceutical care in the country.

The Pharmacy Council has updated its guidelines on New Pharmacy Applications to reflect FDA GSDP guidelines and provide timelines for the application process and information on the digital application portal. These new guidelines take effect 1st October 2024 The updated guidelines can be downloaded from:

Data & Services

Get general statistics on our stakeholders, and learn how to obtain more specific data for research or businesses

The Pharmacy Council maintains the registers of all pharmaceutical practitioners and facilities where pharmaceutical services are offered.

The gazette of pharmacies (Manufacturing, Wholesale, and Retail) is also published yearly. This gazette is the list of facilities licensed to provide pharmaceutical services for the year.

 

The gazettes of pharmacies and OTCMS are available to research and business institutions that may need such data for their work. To obtain the data, please make a written request in a letter addressed to the Registrar of the Council, indicating exactly what data is needed, and the purpose for which it is needed.
